useCQRS

useCQRS is a React hooks library for applying Command and Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) design pattern and Single Responsibility Principle (SRP) in frontend development.

useCQRS contains:

  • Essential classes for defining CQRS types and handlers
  • Dependency Injection with Type-DI to help build testable applications
  • Attribute validators with class-validator
  • Two react hooks for use in React components: useCommand() and useQuery(). Use the useCommand() hook to do something. Use the useQuery() hook to ask for something.

Motivations

This package will be considered a success if the following goals are achieved:

  1. Frontend and backend developers use the same domain-driven verbs and nouns in their layers. Using ubiquitous language links to task-based thinking, which in the long-term benefits everyone in producing maintainable interfaces (UI / API) and improving user experiences (Khorikov, 2018).

  2. Apply Single Responsibility Principle (SRP) in developing React components. SRP is one of the SOLID principles, which states that a "module should be responsible to one, and only one, actor (Martin, 2017)".

    • A component should use either the useCommand() or useQuery hook but never both hooks.

Using npm or yarn

Define an Event and the EventHandler

Each query, command, and event must have its corresponding handler. Below are examples of classes for a query and its handler. You may use validation decorators to perform field validation and inject classes into the handler via the constructor.

Use the useQuery() hook to dispatch the Query message, which will be consumed by the QueryHandler

In this example, ExampleValidationQueryHandler will be called when the component first render and when the user clicks on the More button.
