generator-blink

Yeoman generator for Blink Mobile apps.

Getting Started

What is Yeoman?

Trick question. It's not a thing. It's this guy:

Basically, he wears a top hat, lives in your computer, and waits for you to tell him what kind of application you wish to create.

Not every new computer comes with a Yeoman pre-installed. He lives in the npm package repository. You only have to ask for him once, then he packs up and moves into your hard drive. Make sure you clean up, he likes new and shiny things.

npm install -g yo

Yeoman Generators

Yeoman travels light. He didn't pack any generators when he moved in. You can think of a generator like a plug-in. You get to choose what type of application you wish to create, such as a Backbone application or even a Chrome extension.

To install generator-blink from npm, run:

npm install -g generator-blink

Finally, initiate the generator:

yo blink

You should now have a project in your working directory with your chosen dependencies, along with some configuration files and a handy Gruntfile to use in development.

Grunt tasks

This generator has some handy functions to handle integration with your git repository, as well as synching with the Blink Mobile platform.

Initial task

Once the generator has finished running, its best to run the following to sync all your code files to the blink platform:

grunt blinkpush

Watch files

The 'watch' task waits for file changes. When a source file has changed, the project will compile all Babel code, lint your javascript files, and sync the file changes with the Blink Mobile server.

grunt watch

Compile Babel (ES6/ECMAScript 2015) files

The 'babel' task will look for all javascript files in the source/es6 directory named your_script.es6.js and compile them into source/scripts as your_script.js.

grunt babel

Push to git repository

The 'gitpush' task will automatically add and commit all your local source code and push it to the specified git repository.

grunt gitpush

Pull from git repository

The 'gitpull' task will pull down all the latest source code from your specified git repository into your local working directory.

grunt gitpull

Getting To Know Yeoman

Yeoman has a heart of gold. He's a person with feelings and opinions, but he's very easy to work with. If you think he's too opinionated, he can be easily convinced.
